Moroccan Youth Demographics
A careful reading of Morocco's youth population using official HCP sources, with age definitions and geography kept explicit.
What the evidence says
HCP reported 5.9 million people aged 15 to 24 in Morocco in 2021, representing 16.2% of the total population. The same note reported that 59.9% lived in urban areas and that Casablanca-Settat contained 19.1% of the national population in that age group. Newer census material from RGPH 2024 should be used when available for updated territorial analysis. These figures should not be combined directly with studies that define youth as ages 15 to 29 or 18 to 29.
These figures use the definitions shown on each card. They are context indicators, not interchangeable measures.
Moroccan Youth Demographics
National scale
Youth demographics are best understood as a distribution across age, gender and territory rather than a single national total. HCP's 2022 youth note provides a useful 15-24 snapshot, while RGPH 2024 publications are the appropriate route for newer census detail.
Urban and territorial distribution
The 2021 HCP youth note described a majority-urban youth population and substantial concentration in the largest regions. Territorial concentration matters when interpreting access to universities, employment markets, transport, youth services and international mobility.
Age definitions
Ages 15-24 are common in international statistics, while policy and programme documents may use 15-29, 18-29 or other ranges. This page labels each range explicitly so the denominator remains clear.
Update method
MYCDIC reviews this page against HCP census and population releases. New figures should replace older figures only when the age range, reference year and methodology are known.
Primary evidence used on this page
MYCDIC prioritizes official national sources and primary international institutional sources. Access dates are shown so readers can evaluate freshness.
